I am a one-hobby-at-a-time kind of person. I get really hooked on and obsessed about one thing for a little while and then move on to something else that I'll be equally as hooked on and obsessed about. I'll usually come back around to the first obsession eventually, but when it comes to hobbies I'm incredibly ADD. I just can't stick to one thing for long.
Over the summer during Michael's first deployment, my obsession was P90x. I worked out six days a week, and really trained myself to *eat clean*. But when Michael got home and my heart condition started giving me problems, I put it on the back burner. I tried really hard to stick to eating as healthy as possible--because after all, it's a lifestyle change, not a diet--but with the holidays, that took a big nose dive too.
I kept meaning to get back to my workouts, but I just didn't feel motivated. I've been down in the dumps a lot lately, dealing with circumstances that are out of my control, and that is what finally kicked me to get back into the fitness world. Working out helped me get over the emotional pain of our miscarriage last year--it could help me again. That, and the fact that my new *skinny* clothes were starting to feel a little tight. Whoops.
This time around, I'm doing a different Beachbody fitness program: Turbo Fire. I am so in love. I can't believe how much I enjoy working out every day. When I was doing P90x, I enjoyed it because I liked how it made me feel, and the results I was seeing. I didn't necessarily love the workouts themselves. They did their job and weren't incredibly boring, but they were really just a means to an end.
But Turbo Fire? Amazing! I was actually pretty leery about doing the program because so many fitness programs that are aimed at women seem very wimpy to me, especially after completing P90x. I don't want to waste my time with a twenty minute workout that doesn't leave me drenched in sweat. Turbo Fire is often described as a mix of dance and kickboxing which also worried me. It just seemed too...girly.
It may be girly, and we may work out to the lyrics of "Girl I got your boyfriend, I got your man" during one particular workout, but it isn't wimpy. I am soaked in sweat after every workout. After only two weeks of the program, I can already see small changes in my body. That, ladies and gents, is golden.
Besides Turbo Fire, I'm trying to incorporate running into my fitness regime. I've never been a runner. I've always had issues with becoming easily fatigued and out of breath doing any kind of fitness for as long as I can remember (stupid heart!) so running has always been especially hard for me. But since my endurance and stamina are so much better than they've ever been, I'm going to give running a try.
So my old obsession has come back around, and I hope it keeps me hooked for a long while. I'm ready to see what my body is capable of!

P90x 90 Day Results!
Over the weekend, I finally hit my 90th day of P90x. I DID IT!!!!
When I started this program three months ago, I'll admit I was a little scared. The program has been hyped up so much, and since I definitely wasn't in shape, I wasn't sure if I could do it. Although the program is intense, I absolutely believe anyone who really is committed to changing their bodies can do this program.
I've found that its often mental roadblocks that get in your way rather than physical ones. If you set your mind to something--really set it to a task--and know that no matter the obstacles, you will do whatever it takes to achieve your goals, you can do anything. It may not be easy, but nothing in life worth having ever is. You can always modify a workout to what you are currently capable of achieving, and work your way up. But if you tell yourself out of the gate that you can't do it, you won't.
I am so happy with the results I saw with this program. And more so than just the number changes. I have really made a lifestyle change, and I can't see myself ever going back to eating the way I did before. And not exercising? That's not even a possibility.
So my numbers? Make me want to cry. In a good way. I knew going into this that even if I worked really hard, I probably wouldn't see the results you see in the infomercials. My hormones have finally just balanced out after my miscarriage, and losing weight with hormone issues can be a problem. But I'm happy with what I've achieved.
During the 90 day program, I lost just shy of 10 pounds, 11% body fat, and 18.5 total inches! I lost 5 inches off my waist, 4.5 inches off my hips, 3 inches off my chest, 6 inches off my thighs!
To put it into better perspective, I lost two pant sizes. I went from wearing large shirts down to mediums. I can even squeeze into a size small dress here and there. It's amazing. It's motivation to kick these last 15 pounds out the door. It's just...awesome. Yeah, awesome pretty much describes it.
So what's next for me? A little bit of everything. Towards the end of the 90 days, I started to get bored with the same stuff all the time. I still love the program, but I need even more variety than twelve different workouts apparently. So right now, I'm just winging it. I now have the Insanity program so I'm trying to stick to that most of the time, but will throw P90x, Turbojam, Taebo, and whatever else I can find that doesn't suck into the mix.
Bring it!

Becoming a Coach
I started week six of P90x today. I just can't get enough of this addicting program. I'm still as pumped about working out as I was when I started the program. I can't ask for more than that!
Over the weekend I took my love for P90x and Beachbody in general to the next level. I became a Coach! They started a new promotion a week ago that allows active duty members and their spouses to become Coaches without any of the overhead costs. All fees are waived! And what makes it incredibly amazing is that I now get a 25% discount on all their products.
That was pretty much what brought me on board. I decided to start ordering Shakeology--a ridiculously yummy meal replacement drink that is super chocked full of vitamins and minerals. It is a little slice of heaven. Most protein drinks, bars, etc are nasty at worst, tolerable at best. I refuse to eat food that doesn't taste good, even if it's good for me. But Shakeology really is awesome. So now that I'm a Coach, I get it for a good price. Without paying for any of the normal Coach fees. Pretty much couldn't pass that up.
I'm not sure what being a Coach will mean to me yet. I may just be a Coach for the discount or I may make it into a profitable business. I'm not really sure yet. I'm not nor have I ever really been a salesperson.
I'm just happy that P90x has started me on a journey that I never would have imagined being on. I've never loved working out, and now I look forward to it each and every day. It's a part of who I am now. You can't change your mindset like I have, and then fall back into your old habits. Life doesn't work that way--at least not for me.

30 Days
Today is my 30th day of P90x!!!!
And yes, that statement did justify that many exclamation points. I am so very proud of myself for making it this far. I've now completed Phase 1 which means I am a third of the way through the program.
My life has changed so much in the last thirty days. My mind frame especially. This isn't about dieting. It's about changing my lifestyle. This isn't *just* about losing weight. It's about loving myself. It's about achieving goals. It's about taking care of my body because it's the only body I'm ever going to have.
In a society that tells you that the number on the scale is all that matters, it's disheartening to see that those numbers refuse to budge. So I put my scale away. Because this journey is not about that stupid number on that stupid scale. It's about changing my life so I can be the healthiest person that I'm capable of.
As for the program itself, I still absolutely love it. I actually decided to change from the Lean version to the Classic version in Phase 2 to hopefully see better results. I was led to believe at first that the Lean version was better for women because we didn't need to bulk up, but after more research and plenty of advice from women who have done the program, I've changed my mind.
Classic P90x is definitely more focused on weight training than Lean P90x, but the more muscles you have, the more calories you burn even when you're sitting on your butt. After a weight training workout, muscles continue to burn calories for most of the day, whereas calories are only burned for the few hours directly following a cardio workout. I'd say weight training is my new best friend. Who says it's just for men?
I'm loving the program so much that I may even start doing Doubles soon. Adding Doubles means doing an extra CardioX workout on the days you weight train. I do my workouts as soon as I wake up in the morning so adding another before bed would put enough time between workouts to be feasible I think. I'm just loving working out that much!
My results in the first thirty days weren't jaw dropping, but they were enough to keep me going. The fact that I'll go out in public in shorts and dresses on a regular basis is enough proof of that. I've been a jean and capri gal even on the hottest days for as long as I can remember.
Thus far, I've lost one and a half inches off my waist, two inches off my hips, two inches off my chest, and two and half inches off my thighs (combined)! I've also increased my right arm an inch. You can't see definition in my muscles yet, but I actually have muscle to flex now. Excellent! The scale refuses to budge. But I'm okay with that. I know that I've lost fat but added muscle so I refuse to feel discouraged.
I can't wait to see what changes Phase 2 brings!

Real Sweat, Real People
Today marks the beginning of week four in P90x! Yay!
Can you tell that I am still ridiculously excited about P90x? Never in my life have I stuck with a workout program this long. I've always gotten bored or let life get in the way. I've always found some excuse to just stop doing it. That is so not happening this time around. I am so proud of myself.
I'm losing inches people. Inches. As in plural. My hips, my waist, my thighs. They are all skinner. Skinner makes me happy. I can handle skinner.
The scale? Well, that still isn't doing anything exciting. Technically, P90x really isn't a weight loss program. It's a get-in-the-best-shape-of-your-freaking-life program. Losing weight is just sort of a bonus. I'm stoked about losing inches, but I wouldn't scoff at a decrease in that number on the scale. I'm all for bonuses.
Now that I've completed three weeks of the program, I've almost finished Phase 1. This week is sort of a "relaxation" and "recovery" week. Basically, no weight training. Though honestly, there isn't really anything relaxing about P90x. Even the fifteen minute Ab Ripper workout tries to kill you. It's intense, people.
I'm excited for this recovery week because it's chock full of my favorite workouts: Kenpo karate, Cardio and a double dose of Yoga. I heart Yoga. I hate downward facing dog, but I still heart Yoga. One workout I'm not excited for is Core Synergistics. It's probably my least favorite workout because of all the pushups involved. I have a bad wrist, and my wrist just can't handle pressure at a ninety-degree angle. Thus, I hate the workout. I feel like I can't BRING IT like I'm suppose to because of the pain, and that's frustrating.
Overall, I feel amazing! Some days are a little tougher than others to get my butt out of bed to workout, but I'm hanging in there. Whenever I start to feel my motivation lagging, I just remember all the reasons I'm doing this. And how great it feels to know that when I look in the mirror, I'm already seeing a new me.
And like Tony says, "this is real sweat, real people." I am motivated each and every day by Tony and all the others featured in the workouts. They bring it. They do their best, and forget the rest. And if they can do it, I can do it.
Keep pushing play!

Get Rid of the Goop
That's what Tony on P90x said this morning during my Cardio X workout. Let's get rid of the goop. The gunk. All that stuff we don't need. I don't think he knows what he's gotten himself into with me. I've got a lot of goop, gunk, and stuff to get rid of.
But after only nine days of the P90x program, there definitely is less there than what I started with. And that my friends, is what I call success.
I'm trying to pretend the scale doesn't even exist because if I don't see the numbers deceasing, I think I'll get discouraged. I haven't lost any weight yet, but I've lost inches. And that's what's really important. The scale doesn't show that I've lost fat but gained muscle; the tape measure does. Always trust the tape measure.
Having started my second week of the program, I can tell you that it is definitely a program worth doing. I can already feel myself becoming stronger. Routines within the program that I couldn't really do last week are easier this week.
One of the best things about P90x that I've never encountered on a workout DVD before is the countdown timer. At any given time during the workout, I know how much time is left. Both in the specific routine we are doing at the moment and overall. Knowing that I've completed half the workout is a great motivator. Being able to see that I only have to suffer through Superman for five more seconds keeps me going. Realizing that only ten minutes remain before I can drink my recovery drink and peel myself out of my workout clothes is a life savor. Besides Tony himself, the countdowns are the biggest motivator of this program.
I love P90x. Can you tell? I have so much more energy already. I want to do things again instead of sitting on the couch all day. I'm excited every morning when I wake up because I know I am going to work my ass off (hopefully literally!) and feel amazing afterwards. I've never been excited about exercising before. Ever.
But now? I'm ready to get rid of the goop.

Do Your Best & Forget the Rest
I've made it halfway through my first week of P90x, and I feel great! Well, great and sore. At the same time. We have a love/hate sort of relationship right now.
It only takes one word to sum up P90x, and that would be INTENSE. It is a crazy intense workout each and every day. It's challenging and exciting and by the end you sort of feel like you took a shower in sweat. Yes, I know. Gross. But oh so very true.
I'm doing P90x Lean rather than P90x Classic because it's focuses more on Cardio and losing weight and becoming lean (duh!) rather than bulking up. I'm not looking to enter any gun shows.
With this version of the program, I've done Core Synergistics, Cardio, Ab Ripper and Yoga so far. I was suppose to do Shoulders & Arms yesterday along with Ab Ripper, but I just couldn't. I could barely move. I mentioned P90x is intense, right?
After the first day I was sore, but it was manageable. After my second workout, I was definitely feeling it. By the time I tried to roll out of bed yesterday (people would have paid money to see that comical event), I could barely move. Every muscle in my body felt abused. So I only did the short Ab Ripper workout, and called it a day. I'm looking to get fit and healthy, not die. Dieing is bad.
I'm glad I took the break because I felt much better today. And after the crazy long session of Yoga, I felt even better. Yoga is by far my favorite workout thus far. Not only was it challenging and intense, but it worked on balance and stretching everything out. My sore muscles were so very happy when I finished. It barely felt like I spent an hour and a half working out!
Tomorrow is Legs & Back and another round of Ab Ripper. I'm a little nervous because out of my whole body, the legs are what kill the most right now. An entire workout focused on them? Ouch. But if I get skinner thighs out of the process, I'll deal with the pain.
As Tony says: Do your best and forget the rest. And don't forget to Bring it!

Taking Back My Body
This has been a really crappy year for me health-wise. Last fall I was diagnosed with a heart condition, Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome. Then my migraines flared up, and lasted every single day for a month. And then my miscarriage last month.
I feel like I don't have control over my own body anymore. It does what it wants, when it wants, regardless of my wants. And I'm sick and tired of it.
So I'm taking it back. My body that is. I'm taking back the reins of my health and my body. I'm losing this baby fat (can I still call it that three years later?) once and for all. I want to shed this weight and get in shape for my heart and for my future baby. When the time comes to try again, I want to give my baby the best body to thrive in that I am capable of.
A lot of military wives make goals for themselves while their husbands are deployed, and I think this is the best opportunity I am going to have to focus on this. I have my motivations, and I have my deadline (his redeployment date).
And I have P90x.
Yeah, I think I might be a little crazy for trying this. It's a pretty intense workout, and I'm not really in shape. At. All. But I need something that pushes you and is proven to work. I need structure. I may not be able to accomplish all the workouts right away, but I am going to try. Hard. Because I want this so bad.
And that's really the reason I'm writing this. I want to achieve my goals so badly. In the past, I've tried to start an exercise regime only to let life get in the way. With P90x, I have structure which should help me tremendously. But now I also have you.
I'm going to write an update weekly to help hold me accountable. Please help keep me motivated! Now that my aspirations are out there in the blogsphere, I can't just stop working towards my goals. The whole world would know of my failure then. I hate to fail so that should be a great motivator too. :)
I start P90x today. Wish me luck!
